Archiving the canon of futurism away from the white, Eurocentric history and including more marginalised voices, to collectively create a future that is suited for the whole world.

72-Page monochrome Archive, xerox-printed onto 80gsm Recycled Redeem paper. Hand-bound by myself

A multimedium experiential design project, focusing on the relationship that the development of futurism had with other aspects of culture

It aims to immerse the audience into the world of futurism, and get them to better understand the importance of futurism as a design aesthetic. In addition, it aims to revise the way in which we, as designers, design for the future, by rejecting the western cisheteronormative canon of futurism, and archiving more marginalised voices, so that futurists are not just working with the status quo, but considering the experiences and hopes of people around the world. The archive will be co-created by people, for other people.

This project is a passion project in the sense that it incorporated the things and research that I'm really interested in

This project has allowed me to play around with space, time, senses and sound, to create something akin to Michel Foucault's 'heterotopia': a space which contains and suspends time and space, to create a place that is as immersive as possible.

Research and process

The films featured within the archive, to be presented at the showcase

A key aspect of the project was heavy and diverse research, to try and reduce the amount of my own personal bias going into creating a project that could be viewed by a large audience, as well as showcasing some of my own interests that I think are quite underrated in popular culture. As a result, I've created a product that symbiotically creates and begets its own content: By getting information and references from my peers to place within the archive, I'm able to create an archive that celebrates more and more people, thus reaching more and more people.
