Maison/0 Green Trail Award: Shortlisted
In my final year collection ‘Pink Matrix’ I aim for fully sustainable luxury pieces, made to be degradable into separate materials and recycled easily. The inspiration comes from my relationship of me and my grandmother, who was recycling at her home. She had many pracitcies, one of them was saving starch water after cooking a potatoes and watering her plants with it, which is base for bioplastic material. She’s also remaking old clothes into new garments for me to become different characters, when we used to play games for teleport and galaxy travelling. I aim to recreate ‘‘Pink Matrix’’ universe, which played significant role in my childhood, within all characters from galaxies: ‘‘Crystal galaxy’’, ‘‘Flower crystal galaxy’’ and ’’Strawberry galaxy’’. Each galaxy represnts specific place, things which used to bring me into all these fantasies, such as my grandmother crystal cupboard, her kitchen cupboard with sweets and her whole apartment full of various approx 150 flowers. I have been exploring bioplastic material such as starch / fruit and jelly based bioplastic, which I have developed into edible fabric ''Bioplastic crystal leather'' - leather like consistency, which is easily cooked home, from ingredients such as water and jelly. After cooking, it can be layered into wet texture which naturally dries within next 2 - 3 days depending on the humidity of the environment. After it is ready to be peeled off and made into product.I use only materials my grandmother had home. Such as her broches, recycled knitting yarns, starch water – bioplastic material, as well as crystals which she used to charge in full moon, so they become portals. All my garments are made to become portals after charging in full moon. Resulting in combining bioplastic material with donated crystal waste from Swarovski and donated yarns from UPW. I explore different techniques and variety of bioplastic use among the solid fabric, such UV digital and 3D print on top of the surface for an illusory 3D effect. Also, I use bioplastics as a replacement for traditional embroidery, besides traditional embroidery. All resulting in home cookable, edible and fully degradable bioplastic crystal collection. Cook it! Wear it! Eat it! Vitalise plants with it!
