Showcase

Blurry Closet

Jiani Hong

I am Jiani Hong. As a fashion student, I believe that clothing should not be restricted by societal norms and should not be a shackle for people but a window to showcase their inner selves.

Also, I am interested in the grey area between menswear and womenswear, with a particular focus on menswear.

I believe that people can use their garments to express their true selves rather than being constrained by garments. The term "Blurry" not only describes the silhouettes of this collection but also represents the concept of gender-neutral fashion.

When an image is so blurred that it’s difficult to tell whether the clothing being worn is for men or women in the traditional sense, can it still be called "menswear" or "womenswear"? With this idea in mind, I began creating this collection.

Therefore, I tried to incorporate this atmosphere into the collection, overlapping and intersecting characteristics of menswear and womenswear. Menswear is generally considered to emphasize simplicity, straight lines, and structured tailoring, emphasizing loose comfort. On the other hand, womenswear tends to focus more on curves and soft designs, such as draping, streamlined cuts, and fitted styles. Also, using fabrics with a strong sense of transparency in the details can create an appropriate blurry effect.

Regarding fabrics, menswear primarily uses wool and cotton, while womenswear covers a wider range of fabric choices, to pursue more drape and fashion sense. Therefore, I combine the two, using traditional suiting fabrics as a base, adding silk, chiffon, and semi-transparent organza to blur the boundaries between menswear and womenswear fabrics.

This collection aims to rebelliously showcase against some gender stereotypes in a blurry form. It challenges and attempts to create a well-designed, genderless, and fashionable series.
