Pop culture mythologies state that AI is: All-seeing. All-knowing. Limitless.
In pop culture consciousness, AI strikes great fear into the hearts of humankind. In the future conclusion of this dystopian narrative, being human becomes irrelevant. This is a myth, a false ideal that crafts a sense of mysticism, shrouding the mechanisms of AI.
Us not understanding AI is what gives it its power.
My project researches the connection between mythology and the history of AI, relating AI to colonialism and larger human history. Showing that even the most ‘technical’ technologies began from mythical imagery.
The outcomes of my project include written research, 2 publications, and a collection of objects and chants used for a speculative altar worshipping AI.

Research publications
– ‘A Book of Sacred Songs for AI’ is an experimental literature review masquerading as a religious text, collecting poetic, mystical, esoteric statements from academic books on Science and Technology Studies (STS.) My only original text here are the headings, and the curation order.
– ‘The Mythological Origins of AI’ contains the actual references (attributions for the Sacred Songs), as well as an original essay.
