Listen to me. is a project that will slowly unveil women’s lived experiences that have not been heard at the moment because it has been silenced by fear and trauma. Oftentimes, women are constantly dealing with their trauma over and over again, and through this process begin to doubt themselves and whether or not they should just remain quiet. Whether it’s on the way to work, running an errand, exercising in a park, at home or anywhere in between, women are tuned to carry a heavy burden to feel safe. Women’s safety isn’t only threatened during wars and conflicts. It is also violated in their daily lives in both public and private spaces, including living in peaceful stable democracies. Naturally, we all have the right and freedom to mobility. This gives us access to public spaces, such as taking public transport to go to work, travel wherever as we pleased, and “living life”. Yet this right cannot be taken for granted because in most countries, women has no other choice than to re-define their strategies when travelling, as women want and need to avoid unsafe places and victimisation. Silence is what allowed predators to rampage through the decades unchecked and our silence also means that other women may be subject to those very same violation. With this opportunity, I want to use this project to give women a space and a voice to be courageous, in hope to raise awareness, cancel the silenced culture, allow others to recognise the struggles, listen to women, challenge stereotypes, believe in women and create conversations.
