Fully-fashioned bustier Top

- dead stock cotton cord yarn

- Kinshi paper threads for lacing up

Sculptural skirt

- Using Japanese traditional way of mending bamboo basket called Ikkan-bari

bamboo weaving + Washi, rice paper + Kakishibu, persimmon tannin paint on top

- 100% Irish Linen, hand dyed with persimmon tannin

- dead stock shell buttons which I found in flea market 

Swirl crochet long skirt

- handspan british merino wool

Squiggle knitted top with bamboo bag handles

- dead stock viscose fancy yarn which I brought from Japan + lycra

- second-hand bamboo bag handles

- Takehigo bamboo cane

- dead stock horn buttons which I found in a flea market 

Chunky wool and Sakabukuro Trousers

- squiggle knit fully-fashioned panel on side, dead stock cotton fancy yarn which I brought from Japan + lycra

- swirl crochet with 100% wool roving, hand dyed with tea

- up-cycle of Sakabukuro; 50-60 years old non-seam bags used for the making process of Sake,Japanese rice wine, to squeeze it from fermented rices. The brown colour is derived from Persimmon. Provided by my grandpa’s family 

- second-hand braided woven leather belt + bamboo cane

Research and process

Research images

My collection was inspired by my road trip across Japan which is my home country to see Jomon potteries.

Alongside seeing the ancient cultures, I was also fascinated by traditional crafts which rooted in each areas. For this collection, I tried to combine those kind of Japanese traditional crafts/technique and what I have gathered in U.K. while I'm studying here.
