MECHAS

Simon Grancher

I am a musician, working with sculpture and scenography to create collective « grounding » experiences.

My practice is a search for new values, symbols and rituals in the post-modern society. With sound as my main medium, I focus on creating environments where a sense of connection to others, to the surroundings and oneself is possible. The immersive spaces I create include sound as collective practice, as well as up-cycled sculptures from the waste of civilization. By doing so, my intention is to superimpose fundamental ideas of individual healing and collective healing in the same experiences.

The installation/performance MECHAS is an experiment about the experience of grounding.

A deconstructed temple where the darkness is a texture, playing a drone soundscape made out of the screeching sounds of the city, detuned steel flutes and the saxophone.

Going underground, entering the "engine room" of the infrastructure of the city, is a pilgrimage, ending up in the quiet space of the hidden machine room. here, availability is created. availability to feel and think, to calm down and generate profound changes.

It is a grounding space made out of the violent machinery of our civilization, a ground for structural change, both personal and societal. The proposition of different symbols, of new values, is permitted in a space that turns the attention towards reshaping, transforming and healing.
