Sound Garden. This sound installation speculates on the relationship between human-made sounds and plants.
Sound is one of the foundations of human society, a communication of vibrations and emitted frequencies. It spreads anywhere through barriers and structures and even into the bodies of plants, where it affects the functioning and division of cells both positively and negatively. In urban spaces human-made sounds are inescapable for plants that grow in these sonic atmospheres causing profound consequences for them, while the ‘voice’ of plants are often inaudible to humans and the plant’s ‘hearing’ is rarely considered. The place of plants in human society should not be ignored and appropriate symbiotic relationships need to be sought.
Sound Garden translates this concept of plants’ experiences of human made-sounds , the installation combines plant sounds and ambient human sound spaces to create a thought-provoking sound environment on plant and sound entanglement.
