‘Tyke’ Zine is both an online and printed bi-annual publication. It has embedded itself into the rich and popularised vernacular of social media and Instagram and equally proved strong in its powerful print abilities. ‘Tyke’s’ mission is to effectively credential the inhabitants of innermost Yorkshire while proving popular within its readership demographic of 18-25-year-olds. The motivations behind the project directly stem from feelings of regional celebration and upliftment. The core ethos of the magazine is to directly explore the documentary, wrongful and prideful stereotypes of England's biggest county. This can be accessed through intimate conversations while entailing femininity, families, traditions and legacy. The casual and satirical tone challenges the wider societal norms of the magazine industry and relays directly back to the Yorkshireman as well as other Yorkshire-born women like myself. My upbringing in North Yorkshire has helped me create a project that feels true, while actively demonstrating knowledge of clear ethical implications, rationale and market research.
