Interior modular system

The design of the interior modular system serves the exhibition space and curation process. The modular system performs as the basic unit for the audience's interactions, encouraging a proactive meaning-making process by involving people into the process of curating and exhibiting. Meanwhile, the system serves other purposes and facilitate the use and convenience of the whole space.

Exhibition design

The exhibition design, presenting the transformation of artworks from simple collections to exhibitions, serves the public with information, historical education and community space. By putting old artworks and archive collections back to use and exhibitions, the information increases people's awareness and understanding of local culture and preserves the precious cultural heritage.

Zoning and programme drawing

An initial conceptualisation of the adaptive reuse of the building. The design aims to provide different experiences for different audiences: history professionals and starters, offering direct and indirect communication and facilitating education fairness by offering equal rights to getting information and resources. Thus, the metaphor of "a book read from different directions" is borrowed to describe the initial spatial concept, and to clearly illustrate the movements of different types of audiences, with different levels of literacy and from different classes, in the designed space.

Building renovation

A formative conceptualisation of adaptive reuse, especially about the additional construction of the building: to further integrate the history of the building itself into the narrative of the whole facility, the building is transformed into a narrative space by replicating the demolished building partitions in the past, and indicating the buildings that used to be exterior spaces, to provide a self-consistent space for the story-telling about the local community, and the building's history, and to inform about the story of the space itself, immersing the audience into a fantastical but realistic vibe.
