My name is Peytie Sarfeh Slater and I have a BA in Fashion Textiles: Knit. My work explores the core of human nature, looked through different lenses. Whether I study humans by studying octopus consciousness, by comparing the characters in Aesop's fables, or proving plant intelligence, my work always determines to remind us that humans are nature, but by doing so in a fantastical and whimsical way.

A story which explores the core of our human innateness.

Where do our instincts come from?

Who are we without socialisation?

By peeling back the layers of what we believe makes us human, we uncover that humans are nature...

...therefore our nature isn't human.

Final work

A model with red hair against a green backdrop, wearing a creme and red-orange textured fluffy top. She's wearing peachy pointelle tights and toolbelt

The Magpie

The Magpie is a mischievous and rascally creature, and loves nothing more than collecting shiny things! By treating this imaginary character as my client, I built a nest-like texture alongside some collected shiny treasures for safekeeping.

A model against a green background wearing a gradient pink body suit with olive tights, and fluffy heels

The Horsie

The Horsie is a socially awkward and dapper fella, by embracing his being I treated him as my client to create this horse-energy look.

Model against a green backdrop wearing a long creme fringed skirt with a chain, and a rainbow gradient flowy top which closes in the front

The Grumpy Trilobite

The only thing on the Grumpy Trilobite's mind is how much he wishes to go back to bed... and he'll only get grumpier if anyone wakes him up! This look incorporates a long fringe skirt mimicking a blanket for the Trilobite, as well as a rainbow gradient top inspired by his armour-like shell.

Model against a green backdrop with a long mint dress with fringe on it, images are knit onto dress of different characters with writing next to them

The Party Scene Dress

By bringing all of the characters to life through jacquard knit, I created a dress which depicts a scene in which they're all at a stuffy cocktail party. The Horsie is excited to practice his small talk, while the Magpie is constantly getting distracted, and The Grumpy Trilobite just wants to go back to bed!
